Steve Binns, M.B.E.

My work as Community Historian for the city of Liverpool means that I have a great stage on which to perform with nearly 800 years of our remarkable history. My main tasks are as a guide at Liverpool Town Hall and St George’s Hall and to speak to groups all over Merseyside, wherever and whoever they are. The number in the group is not important, providing there is some interest in the subject. On meeting groups for the first time I usually talk about my work as a guide on behalf of the city. I have always believed that biography has been a neglected part of the life of our city. People are our most important asset. I have biographical information on over a thousand people who have shaped the life of our history. I will talk about anybody on request, but examples include: W.E. Gladstone. William Roscoe, George Canning, Bessie Braddock, General Tarleton, Margaret Bevan, Agnes Jones, the Stanley’s and the Molyneux’s, George Stubbs, H.L. Elmes, Salvidge and F.E. Smith.
